TSANZ is calling for interested members of the Interventional Pulmonology and Pleural Medicine Special Interest Group to join the working party revising the suite of TSANZ Guidelines for the Recognition of Competency in:

• Thoracic Ultrasound
• Flexible Bronchoscopy
• Intercostal Catheter Insertion
• Endobronchial Ultrasound Transbronchial Needle Aspiration

The TSANZ has practiced a strong approach to ensure that all activities including, clinical documents, education, grant submissions and advocacy associated with the TSANZ meet a set of minimum standards depending on the activity or product. We rely on our members to review these activities to ensure that the highest set of standards in terms of process and content are upheld and would like to acknowledge this valued contribution in the review of the suite of TSANZ Guidelines for Recognition of Competency. The TSANZ is committed to ensuring we continue to drive best practice in respiratory care and by becoming involved in the reviewing of documents you will be part of this. 

The working party is seeking additional members to ensure a broad range of perspectives and experience. We particularly encourage early-career members, advanced trainees and nursing members to apply.

WHAT THE WORKING PARTY WILL PRODUCE

Four revised documents, one per procedure, each supported by a systematic literature search and a structured consensus process, and each submitted for peer-reviewed publication. The revised documents will replace the current competency guidelines and will underpin a national approach to training and assessment across Australia and New Zealand.

HOW THE WORK IS STRUCTURED

• Four sub-groups, one per document, each with two co-chairs
• Each sub-group drafts its own document
• Before external review, every draft is cross-reviewed by members of the other sub-groups for content and methodology
• The full working party reviews and signs off on all four final documents

WHAT YOU WILL DO

For your assigned document:

• Define scope and review questions
• Screen titles and abstracts in duplicate in Covidence
• Review full texts and resolve conflicts
• Extract data and apply quality appraisal tools
• Write the evidence synthesis for your assigned sections
• Take part in structured consensus rounds
• Draft and revise the manuscript

For the other three documents:

• Cross-review drafts for content and methodology
• Review and sign off on the final versions

Review of materials will require a prompt response of approximately two weeks but will vary depending on the activity for review.
