I am now retired from the workforce. Does this change my membership?

If you are retired and are a current Member, you may request that your membership be reviewed under Special Consideration. If approved, your current year membership fee will be reduced and you will still receive all the member benefits (except for grants and awards).

To lodge your request, please email the TSANZ Chief Executive Officer via TSANZOffice@thoracic.org.au along with supporting information (if applicable).

Your request will then be reviewed and you will be notified of the outcome via email. Please note that each situation is viewed on a case by case basis.

I am now on maternity/parental leave and am not working. Does this change my membership?

If you are on maternity/parental leave and not working and are a current Member, you may request that your membership be reviewed under Special Consideration.

If approved, your current year membership fee will be reduced and you will still receive all the member benefits (except for grants and awards).

To lodge your request, please email the TSANZ Chief Executive Officer via TSANZOffice@thoracic.org.au along with supporting information (if applicable).

Your request will then be reviewed and you will be notified of the outcome via email.

Please note that the Special Consideration for this case will be valid for the current year’s membership fee only, that is from 1st January to 31st December of the current year. At the end of the current membership year, revert to previous membership status.

If no update is received after the renewable period, which is usually at the end of March of the following year, your membership will be closed.

I am currently on long term leave from work due to illness or other circumstances. Does TSANZ offer a discount for Members in this situation?

If you are ill or have other personal circumstances meaning that you are unable to work, you may request that your membership be reviewed under Special Consideration.

If approved, your current year membership fee will be reduced and you will still receive all the member benefits (except for grants and awards).

To lodge your request, please email the TSANZ Executive Officer via TSANZOffice@thoracic.org.au along with supporting information.

Please note that the Special Consideration for this case will be valid for the current year’s membership fee only, that is from 1st January to 31st December of the current year. At the end of the current membership year, revert to previous membership status

I am currently a TSANZ Student Member but I have now completed my studies to become a medical practitioner, scientist or other health professional. Can I advance my membership to an Associate Member?

If you have completed your studies, you may request a change in your membership category to reflect your achievement. Please contact the Membership Officer with your request via TSANZOffice@thoracic.org.au 

Please note that additional information may be requested.

Your request will then be reviewed and you will be notified of the outcome via email.

I have now completed my postgraduate training and qualifications in respiratory medicine, sleep medicine, thoracic surgery or related fields. Can I advance my membership to an Ordinary Member?

If you have completed your postgraduate training, you may request a change in your membership category to reflect your achievement. Please contact the Membership Officer with your request via TSANZOffice@thoracic.org.au

Your request will then be reviewed and you will be notified of the outcome via email.

I am currently a TSANZ Ordinary Member but I am now studying fulltime/part time in a University. Does TSANZ offer a discount for Members in this situation?

If you are now studying fulltime or part time, are not earning income or are not earning as much, you may request that your membership be reviewed. Please contact the Membership Officer with your request via TSANZOffice@thoracic.org.au 

Your request will then be reviewed in the light of the following options:

  • To be reviewed under Special Consideration
  • To be reviewed under Category Ordinary with income less than AU$105,000 p.a

Please note that additional information may be requested.

My membership has lapsed for more than 12 months (due to various reasons). What should I do?

If your membership has lapsed for more than 12 months and wish to reinstate your membership, you will be required to make payment for the current year’s subscription. You will also need to submit the Authorisation and Declaration form.

Your membership will be passed on to the Board for their endorsement. Once it is endorsed, you will be notified of the outcome via email.

My circumstances have changed and I wish to resign as a Member, how do I notify TSANZ of my wishes?

Should you wish to resign as a Member of TSANZ, you should notify the Membership Officer via email to TSANZOffice@thoracic.org.au 

TSANZ would appreciate that you detail a short reason why you are closing your membership as this will assist with planning future member retention strategies.
